Washing Instructions for Garments Embroidered with Madeira Polyneon Polyester Thread

Madeira Polyneon polyester thread offers excellent colorfastness and resistance to chlorine*, making it the ideal choice for denim wash items, swimwear, sportswear, children's wear, workwear, and items requiring frequent or heavy-duty laundering—like hotel, catering, and food trade linens. We proudly serve wholesalers nationwide from Ohio.

*Polyneon is resistant to controlled chlorine treatment:

  • Max. 20 g/l active chlorine
  • Temperature: max. 30 °C (86 °F)
  • Time of treatment: max. 30 minutes

For best longevity and to prevent any potential issues (especially on first wash), follow these general manufacturer guidelines:

  • Wash in warm water with a mild detergent. Check color cards for specific laundering recommendations.
  • Avoid bleaching agents (chlorine, peroxide, or sodium carbonate) unless necessary—Polyneon can withstand limited exposure as noted above.
  • Do not line dry. Tumble dry on a warm setting.
  • Never leave damp or wet embroidered items folded or stuck together.
  • Never wring out embroidered items.
  • Never leave embroidered items soaking in water.
  • For commercially laundered garments or linens, polyester thread like Polyneon is recommended.
  • If washing a new garment first in cool/cold water, leftover dye particles may remain on the fabric (this is normal and not damage). Rewash in warm water to remove them.
  • If water/steam is used before first laundering (e.g., to remove water-soluble topping), excess dye may release early. Wash in the warmest water safe for the garment and thread, repeating if needed. Do not tumble dry until clean of over-dye.
